What’s in a name? Salesforce set to lose battle to rename Heron Tower

The controversial renaming of Heron Tower to Salesforce Tower is set to be abandoned after the owners of the City skyscraper agreed this week to withdraw the application.

The parties involved are understood to be close to reaching an agreement that will see the building called simply 110 Bishopsgate, its street name, with existing name “Heron Tower” also dropped.

Salesforce, the US cloud software firm, will be allowed to keep its branding within the tower and informally call it Salesforce Tower but tenants will not be forced to use the name for official purposes.

The planned agreement comes ahead of a meeting being held by Canada’s planning and transportation committee to change the guidelines for granting name changes.

The committee is proposing that only tenants occupying 50 per cent of a building can apply for a name change. Salesforce occupies only six floors of the 36-floor tower.
