Apple is launching a new MacBook which it is touting as its thinnest ever computer.

Speaking on stage at an Apple event where details of the Apple Watch are expected to be revealed, marketing vice president Phil Schiller revealed the tech giant's newest notebook computer.

The new Macbook is 13.1mm “thin” – 24 per cent thinner than the MacBook Air – and weighs just two pounds.

It still has a full-size keyboard with individually LED lit keys, a 12-inch retina display, and a trackpad which has "Force Touch", making it more reactive to different pressures.

The MacBook will have no fan allowing it to run silently and also saving space and includes a battery life of nine hours for web browsing and up to 10 hours of iTunes movie playback.

A single port will work for USB data, DisplayPort, HDMI and VGA as well as charging.

The computer will come in three colours – space grey, silver and gold.

The new MacBook will be priced at $1299 (around £859) and be available from 10 April.
