All-rounder Mitchell Marsh boosted his chances ahead of Wednesday’s first Test by smashing an unbeaten 136 as Australia closed the day 440-6.

The positivity from Marsh’s knock was tempered by seamer Ryan Harris, who was forced to withdraw from Australia’s starting line-up due to soreness related to a long-standing knee injury, placing his participation at Cardiff in doubt.

Opener David Warner cracked a clinical 94, while back up wicketkeeper Peter Nevill (78), all-rounder Shane Watson (52) and batsman Adam Voges (49) were also in the runs, although skipper Michael Clarke fell first ball.
