Bash this: The UK’s highest-rated chief executive is a banker

By: Emma Haslett

Is this the end of banker bashing? It turns out the UK's most beloved chief executive works in the finance sector – but his isn't one of the traditional lenders…

A new ranking by job review site Glassdoor, which is compiled by looking at how employees rate their own bosses, put Craig Donaldson, the chief executive of challenger Metro Bank, in the top spot, with a 99 per cent approval rating.

He was followed by Steve Ingham, the boss of recruiter PageGroup, and Colin Temple, the chief executive of retailer Schuh.

Glassdoor, which allows employees to leave anonymous comments about their bosses, said workers had praised Metro Bank executives' open door policy.

"They get their hands dirty and care about colleagues just as much as they care about customers," said one.

But it wasn't the only lender on the list: bosses at Morgan Stanley, Goldman Sachs and JP Morgan were all among the top 25 – although none of the chief executives of the UK's Big Four banks made it into the rankings.

Meanwhile, PwC, Deloitte and EY all made it into the top 25 – although their rival, KPMG, was left off.
