Hilary Clinton has conceded defeat to rival Donald Trump who is now officially the next US President

John Podesta, chairman of the Clinton campaign took to the stage earlier at its headquarters and told supporters to "head home, [and] get some sleep" and that Clinton nor the campaign would have anything more to say until morning in the US.

However, Clinton has called Donald Trump to concede defeat.

In his winning speech, Trump said: "She congratulated us. I congratulated her on a very hard fought campaign."

Podesta said before the call: "They're still counting votes and every vote counts… several states are too close to call so we're not going to have anything more to say tonight," he said, adding "she's not done yet" in an attempt to rally weary supporters.
