Energy firm Eon losing customers at ‘alarming rate’, report says

The number of energy customers abandoning Eon is growing at an “alarming” rate, experts have warned, as the Big Six continues to lose out.

Figures from Compare the Market show that nearly 22 per cent of customers who switched suppliers on the site came from Eon. Meanwhile only seven per cent of customers are switching to the supplier.

“Customer outflows from Eon are growing at an alarming rate, with the supplier unable to fully replace the losses with new customers,” the site’s head of energy Peter Earl, said.

Nearly 26 per cent of customers switched from the Big Six energy suppliers, while only 17 per cent switched to the companies.

However, Big-Six supplier EDF bucked the trend, becoming the most popular supplier to switch to at over 30 per cent, while only losing less than nine per cent.

“EDF Energy took the top spot attracting more than a quarter of all new switches. [One] tariff attracted nearly half of all those switches, making an average saving of £40.59.”

Eon has been contacted for comment.
