O2 customers across the UK were unable to make and receive calls after an outage hit parts of the network for roughly three hours this morning.

The issues were first reported at around 8am, and network monitoring site Down Detector received more than 450 reports of outages. Normal service was restored at roughly 11am.

Oh @O2 really?! Again?!? #O2down

— Katie Brooks (@katielbrooks_) March 22, 2019

The problems were largely reported in London, Birmingham and Manchester, but appeared to affect other parts of the UK as well. Many O2 customers took to Twitter to express their anger.

@O2 Having problems, unable make outgoing calls but can receive incoming? Anyone else? I know of a couple of people.

— Dean Turnbull (@DeanTurnbull01) March 22, 2019

A spokesperson for O2 said: “The problem that some of our customers experienced this morning making and receiving calls has been fixed. We apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused.”

O2 did not say what had caused the outage, but said it will conduct a thorough review.

Anyone else having problems making outgoing calls? @O2 #o2 #o2downagain

In December O2 suffered a day-long outage across its entire UK network after a problem with software in the network's equipment, which is made by Ericsson.

The firm offered compensation to its 25m customers, who were unable to access data during the outage.
