Microsoft Paint fans celebrate as digital drawing tool saved

Microsoft will keep built-in drawing tool Paint in its Windows 10 update following suggestions from the company that the popular app would be removed.

In 2017, Microsoft announced that Paint would be “depreciated”, meaning that the company would stop developing the app, however, the tool remained available for download.

A Microsoft developer confirmed that Paint will be included as part of the next Windows 10 update next month.

Microsoft senior program manager Brandon LeBlanc said on Twitter that the app will remain included in Windows 10 “for now”.

Yes, MSPaint will be included in 1903. It'll remain included in Windows 10 for now.

Fans of the app celebrated the decision, praising the art program’s simplicity and accessibility.

"The way I discovered it was when I was like six or seven when I was mucking around on the computer," Sydney-based digital artist Miranda Lorikeet told the BBC.

"It's a crappy tool at the end of the day, it's not good, and I think I like using something that is genuinely a rubbish tool to make artwork."
