Apple Music launches today – here is everything you need to know

Apple will today launch its new music streaming service, which will allow users to stream music to their Apple devices for a fee.

Apple Music is a direct challenge to competitor Spotify. It will be free for the first three months, and then priced at £9.99 a month.

Unlike Spotify, the new product from the tech titan features a radio station, called Beats 1, fronted by the former Radio 1 DJ Zane Lowe, and broadcasts all the time from London, New York and Los Angeles.

There has been controversy over the new model, with pop superstar Taylor Swift forcing Apple to pay artists during the trial, but others believe it could help artists as it will bring more fans to live shows.

Bora Celik, founder of gig subscription app Jukely, said:

An artist’s recorded music is like a business card, so the existence of another streaming service will only increase artists’ fan bases and get more people to come to their concerts, which is where they make the majority of their earnings anyway.
