Aussie cricket team welcomed ahead of Ashes

Australian diplomats had their best sporting powerhouses on show last night, as the Australian cricket team met the media and introduced their players for the upcoming Ashes tour – just over two weeks away.

The Australian team, known to some as “Dad’s Army” for their higher than average age range, are firm favourites for an Ashes series win in England for the first time in a decade.

Alexander Downer, the Australian Commissioner to the UK, found it “at least flattering” to see the England team, who last won the Ashes in 2013, have hired an Australian coach to train them ahead of next month.

The Aussie team, who are currently training for the games at Merchant Taylor’s School near Watford, were put on the back foot this weekend after a friendly match with the boys’ cricket team left them bowled out.

Australian captain Michael Clarke said: “We are very grateful to Merchant Taylor’s School for welcoming us and letting us train in the run up to the game.”

“It shows we’ve got a lot of work to do, but they’ve been great hosts and great to play with.”

Good luck everyone!
