Barcelona 6, Paris Saint-Germain 1 (Agg: 6-5): Barca back from the Champions League brink after making history with stunning and unprecedented comeback

Barcelona made Champions League history by producing the most staggering comeback the competition has ever witnessed to overturn a 4-0 first-leg deficit and reach the quarter-finals at the expense of Paris Saint-Germain.

The five-time conquerors of Europe trailed 5-3 on aggregate in the 88th minute, requiring three goals to progress, but overcame near-impossible odds as Sergi Roberto netted a 95th-minute clincher following a Neymar double.

Edinson Cavani looked to have calmed Parisian nerves with what appeared an all-important away goal on 61 minutes after Barcelona had raced into a 3-0 lead in the opening moments of the second period.

Luis Enrique’s side had seized the initiative courtesy of an early Luis Suarez strike, which was built upon by a Layvin Kurzawa own goal and Lionel Messi penalty.

“This is a historic achievement that will be remembered forever,” said Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu.

No club had ever progressed from a Champions League knockout tie having trailed by four goals or more from the first leg, while Barcelona defied in-play odds of 200-1 to reach the last eight for the 10th successive season.

The moment which sparked mayhem throughout Camp Nou was Roberto’s goal in the fifth minute of stoppage time, as he diverted Neymar’s lofted ball into the penalty area beyond PSG goalkeeper Kevin Trapp.
