BILL OF THE WEEK

IT SEEMS there’s a new trick on the canny corporate’s radar – the Christmas client breakfast, which is easy to book, cheap as chips (well, in comparison to an evening blowout, anyway) and doesn’t leave you with a sore head for the next three days.

Take this group, for example, who turned up to swanky eatery 1 Lombard Street last week for an early celebration. Each member of the group managed to pack away his or her own body weight in grub – muesli and fruit for starters, followed by good old fry-ups – and they even squeezed in a few vitamins with some fresh juices.

Four bottles of Laurent Perrier rose champagne were the crowd’s only nod to the usual party extravagance – taking the bill to an eminently reasonable £917.61. Bargain.
