Facegloria: Brazilian Evangelicals launch “sin-free” version of Facebook

If you are tired of bikini pictures and swearing filling up your Facebook news feed there’s a new option out there.

Brazilian Evangelicals have launched what they are calling a "sin-free" version of the social network, called Facegloria. Here, you click “amen”, not “like”, and gospel music plays as you chat.

The new site bans swearing, erotic and violent content – as well as all depictions of homosexual activity.

In the month since it was launched, Facegloria has attracted over 100,000 users, according to the site’s co-founder and web designer Atilla Barros, who told AFP:

“On Facebook you see a lot of violence and pornography. That's why we thought of creating a network where we could talk about God, love and to spread His word."

They plan to reach two million users in the next two years, and as Brazil now has 42 million Evangelicals, the Protestant movement growing rapidly as the Catholic church declines, this may be more than a vain hope.

Currently, Facegloria exists only in a Portuguese version – but the English domain Faceglory has already been bought.
