Button brings up double century in grand manner

BRITAIN’S Jenson Button crowned his 200th Grand Prix appearance with victory in Hungary and admitted he would need the upcoming summer break to recover from the celebrations.

The McLaren driver, who awoke yesterday to a hoax story posted on his personal website by hackers claiming he was in a “critical condition” following a “serious accident”, claimed the 11th win of his career at the same venue at which he recorded his first.

The 2009 world champion fought off a spirited challenge from team-mate Lewis Hamilton, whose race was hindered by a series of pit stops and a flawed tyre strategy, to finish ahead of Red Bull’s Sebastian Vettel and Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso.

“It’s good having a couple weeks break because it might take me that long to get over tonight,” said Button, who heads into the summer break still 100 points behind championship leader Vettel.

“This is the first place I won a grand prix, in 2006 in these sorts of conditions. It’s a great moment. For some reason I like these conditions, I don’t know why.

“It was a great call by all of us not to go to the inters, and a great weekend for the team – we’re going into the break on a nice high, but every day we will be thinking about Spa.”
