Button commits his future to McLaren

FORMER world champion Jenson Button has ended speculation about his future with McLaren by signing a new long-term contract with the Surrey-based team.

The 31-year-old joined McLaren in 2010 following his landmark success with the Brawn GP and after a satisfactory first season, when he finished fifth, he has enjoyed holding the upper hand over team-mate and fellow Brit Lewis Hamilton this time around.

Button’s contract was due to expire at the end of the current season, which finishes in Brazil next month, and McLaren had feared losing their most experienced driver amid interest from rivals Ferrari.

“I’ve never felt more at home at a team than I do at McLaren,” said Button (right) “I’ve won four of the greatest races of my life here, I’m currently lying second in the championship and I feel I’m driving better than ever.

“I believe the passion to win is stronger here at McLaren than anywhere else. As a grand prix driver, those are incredibly powerful feelings to share and they’ve only reinforced my desire to commit my long-term future to the team.”
