Changing, growing …exciting times at CityAM

CityAM will be 10 years old next year and until now it has had just two editors. Yesterday it got its third with my elevation to that role, with Marc Sidwell working alongside me as executive editor across all the company’s platforms.

Having both worked for this group for some time, Marc and I are fully aware of all the things that make this newspaper the much-loved product that it is.

The sheer number of stories, the refusal to bash the City whenever the opportunity arises and the capacity to report on the myriad of exciting things that take place in this great capital of ours day after day are key. These core strengths will not change.

What will change, and is changing, is the title’s accessibility to the game-changers who work in the City. When I first joined the company this was a fledgeling title, with a newcomer’s audacity but not much pulling power.

Now the country’s top business people and powerbrokers write for us, speak to us and want to influence what we think. We have come a long way in a relatively short period, which is why this is one of the most exciting jobs around.

In the past few months, our printed newspaper has been distributed ever further afield, with towns such as Cambridge and Bishops Stortford joining the centres where commuters can pick up the newspaper on their way into London. Our extended reach means that CityAM, the newspaper, continues to grow while many others contract.

Equally exciting is our growth online where Martin Ashplant and his team have been breaking records virtually each week on cityam.ca. Try it now, if you haven’t already. You will be pleasantly surprised.
