Covid booster jab programme to be set out ‘in due course’

Scotland Marks 3 Millionth Dose Of Covid-19 Vaccine

Plans for a Covid booster jab programme will be set out “in due course”, after doctors and NHS trusts said a plan for an autumn rollout should start now.

A government source told the BBC that “we cannot just carry on as we are, with an emergency response”.

They said questions still needed answering, like whether children will be vaccinated and how long immunity from the original Covid jabs lasts.

A Department of Health spokesperson said a final decision on the booster programme would in part depend upon drama from ongoing clinical trials.

Nearly 43 million people have had a first dose of a Covid-19 vaccine, while 31 million have had two doses, giving them maximum protection from the virus.
