Deliveroo and Just Eat break into WPP most valuable brands league table

Takeaway firms Deliveroo and Just Eat have broken into the ranks of the UK's most valuable brands, according to new analysis published today.

The companies have broken into the top 75 list for the first time, as Deliveroo came 64th with a value of $888m while Just Eat nabbed 30th place with a brand value of $2.5bn. It comes as Brits increasingly opt to order food in than go out to a restaurant to eat.

In WPP's BrandZ ranking of the UK's most valuable brands, other new brands including smoothie maker Innocent and brewers Brewdog also broke on to the list for the first time.

WPP and its analytics agency Kantar said this showed consumers reacting well to innovators and brands which were seen to shake the market up.

The league table aims to analyse how much UK brands power business growth, and is calculated using financial data alongside responses from 120,000 consumers and their likelihood to buy a certain product.

Vodafone claimed top spot once again, with an overall brand value of $28.9bn, six per cent up from last year. Bank HSBC improved its rating by seven per cent up to $23.6bn, while Sky made the biggest steps forward following its takeover saga, increasing by 11 per cent to $12bn.

BT, which has had a tough year and seen its boss Gavin Patterson resign, lost four per cent of its brand value to sit at $13.6bn, while Barclays also lost seven per cent to stand at $6.3bn.

David Roth, WPP, said:

The nation’s most valuable 75 brands have all risen to the top in a highly competitive, crowded and uncertain environment. Consumers value innovation, and it is key to helping UK companies’ future-proof their brands, deliver sustainable growth and increase in value; ever more vital in a post-Brexit world.
