An international law firm has revealed that it is venturing further into Nordic territory with its most recent merger move.

DLA Piper today announced that it was joining forces with Finnish lawyers Peltonen LMR, which will mean the firm will have more than 200 lawyers based in Nordic countries and a new base in Helsinki.

DLA Piper already has offices in Stockholm, Sweden, and Oslo, Norway. The firm hopes today's move will help to strengthen its service offering in the region, which includes expertise in financial services, real estate and technology.

"We are very pleased to welcome the partners and staff of Peltonen LMR to DLA Piper and to enhance our capability in the important Nordic region," said Simon Levine, global co-chief executive of DLA Piper. "As part of our vision to be the leading global business law firm, a key part of strategy is to operate in all the major world economies and other important markets where our clients are based or do business."

Juan Picon, co-managing director of DLA Piper's EMEA practice, added:

"We are excited at the prospect of being able to offer the market a true pan-Nordic capability. Frankly, we were surprised that no other firm has succeeded in developing such a capability and having talked to our clients and other institutions who operate across the region, we believe that the market will respond positively to what we are doing."
