EE to remove data charges during England Euro 2020 final

EE is waiving data fees during England's Euro 2020 final against Italy on Sunday

EE customers will be able to stream England’s Euro 2020 final clash against Italy on Sunday night for no extra cost after the mobile network said it will remove data charges.

The company today said that any data used from 6pm until midnight on Sunday will be free of charge.

The data freebie, which will cover any extra time and penalties if needed, also means users can message friends and post their predictions on social media during the game.

EE added that any customers who have already used up their data allowance will be able to access data at no additional charge.

The company has experienced record usage peaks on its mobile network during recent major football fixtures, and England’s first major final in 55 years is expected to spark a similar surge.

Chelsea’s victory over Manchester City in the Champions League final in May set the record for the biggest mobile data peak the EE mobile network has ever seen.

This smashed the record previously set by the Europa final three days earlier when Manchester United lost out to Villareal on penalties.

“Millions of fans across the country will understandably be glued to the final — whether that’s at home, out and about, or at Wembley Stadium connected by EE — and with emotions running high, the last thing you need concern yourself with is data running out,” said Marc Allera, chief executive of BT’s consumer group.

“On Sunday evening, customers can rest assured that when it counts, you can count on our award-winning network — to stream every kick, capture every moment and share every roar when the Three Lions bring it home!”
