The bank known for eschewing branches is making its first foray into a physical presence on the high street.

After 25 years with online and telephone-only services, First Direct will appear in real life for the first time at 12 station locations including Clapham, Raynes Park and Vauxhall with branded cash machines.

First Direct says the cash machines “are a great and different way of having a physical presence to raise awareness of first direct”.

As to whether the cash machine is the first step in plans to go into bricks and mortar banking?

“We've been the top of the tree for customer satisfaction in banking for the last 25 years since we launched so there's no plans to change the formula any time soon!" assures head of marketing Lisa Moore.
