We have launched the Toast the City awards 2026 and throughout the year we’ll be speaking to some of our nominees – this week it’s Brazilian restaurant Fogo de Chao at Bishopsgate. To vote for your favourite Square Mile spots for the 2026 awards, from bars and restaurants to galleries and green spaces, visit the Toast the City website here.

Katherine Farquhar is relationships and events manager at Fogo de Chao Bishopsgate. She has been with the business for nine years and was part of the Bishopsgate opening team since, having now worked in the City restaurant since August 2023. She says her focus has been bringing authentic Southern Brazilian hospitality to the heart of the City.

What makes Fogo de Chao stand out?

We bring a little piece of Southern Brazil to the Square Mile. It’s not just the food, it’s the warmth, generosity and theatre of the authentic Churrasco Experience, delivered with genuine Brazilian hospitality.

How would your regulars describe Fogo de Chao in three words?

Warm. Generous. Unforgettable.

What’s the one thing Fogo de Chao does better than anyone else?

Making every Guest feel genuinely special, from the moment they arrive to the moment they leave. What starts as a quick lunch often turns into “just one more slice of Picanha”.

What’s been the biggest challenge running a business in the City?

Meeting growing demand while maintaining the same exceptional experience for every guest. Whether we’re hosting a Tuesday business lunch, a client dinner or a lively Saturday family celebration, every guest deserves to feel like they’re our only table.

And the biggest opportunity?

The City is evolving into a true seven-day destination. We’re excited to be part of creating reasons for people to visit Bishopsgate beyond the working week.

How has the Square Mile changed since Fogo de Chao opened?

There’s a real buzz around the area. New openings, more visitors and more reasons for people to spend time in the City beyond work. We don’t see competition – we see neighbours helping make the Square Mile more exciting.

What’s a small detail you obsess over that customers might not notice?

The wine glasses. The right glass can elevate an exceptional wine into a memorable experience.

What’s the most memorable feedback you’ve had?

A Brazilian guest once told us, “It tastes like home”. That’s about the highest compliment we could ever receive.

Who is the typical Fogo de Chao customer – and has that changed?

During the week we welcome business diners, client entertaining and corporate events; at weekends, it’s families, friends and celebrations. The mix is becoming increasingly diverse as the City evolves into more than just a business district – no two days look the same and that’s the fun of it!

Which other City venues do you rate highly?

The Barbican. It’s a cultural landmark that brings people together through food, arts and community which are values we share and so admire greatly.

What does a perfect day in the Square Mile look like to you?

Sunshine, busy pavements, a lunch that runs longer than planned, a spot of culture, and to close, it has to be a cocktail (or two) as the City starts to glow in the evening.

What do you like to have on your morning toast?

Asking a Brazilian restaurant about toast feels unfair. We’d swap it for pão de queijo every single time.
