The FTSE 100 ended the week 0.47 per cent down today, as a number of major insurers took heavy losses during trading on Friday.

The index dropped 35.24 points to end the day at 7,510.20

RSA Insurance was the biggest loser on the stock market today, shedding 9.31 per cent after it told investors profits would be lower after claims rocketed during the Beast from the East earlier this year.

Car recovery firm the AA also lost 5.66 per cent of its share price over the course of the day following a week where it also said torrid weather and an abundance of potholes on the nation's roads hit profits.

Outsourcer Serco defied difficult conditions in the sector to surge 10.76 per cent ahead after it upgraded its profit forecasts in the wake of major rival Carillion's collapse.

Acacia minerals was the second biggest riser gaining 5.95 per cent, while shares in gambling firm 888 rallied 4.78 per cent after falling to a record low yesterday after reporting ongoing difficulties with regulation the sector.
