Grenfell survivors welcome inquiry report

Survivors and bereaved family members of the Grenfell Tower fire have welcomed a report into the disaster, which found there were “systemic failings” by the London Fire Brigade (LFB).

Grenfell United – an organisation for “bereaved, survivors and community of Grenfell Tower” – said the report was “strong” and urged the LFB to make changes in the wake of the findings.

The 1000-page report was released this morning by the Grenfell Tower Inquiry, which is led by retired judge Sir Martin James Moore-Bick.

The report said that fewer people would have died if the LFB were better prepared to handle the fire and did not tell people to sit and wait in their homes.

Grenfell United this morning said the LFB must “stop hiding behind the bravery of their front line fire fighters [and] … face consequences for these failings if there is to be change”.

The group added: “One of the most worrying findings is Sir Martin Moore-Bick’s view that the LFB are currently an institution at risk of not learning the lessons from Grenfell.”
