Hammerson admitted yesterday  that it may make changes to an £800m scheme in London’s east end after running into local opposition.

Bishopsgate Goodsyard, a joint venture project with Ballymore in Shoreditch, comprises of 1,450 new homes, 600,000 square feet of offices.

It has come under fire from local campaigners for being at odds with the local area, which has become a heartland for London’s tech start-ups.

Campaign groups also worry that  big office buildings will sterilise the area’s spirit

A spokesperson said yesterday it is  “reviewing the feedback” and may well make changes. However it failed to placate local opposition yesterday.

Rebecca Collings, spokesperson for a local residents’ group Open Shoreditch said any changes may just be adding “more lipstick to the gorilla”, referring to the project.

“What we need is an expansion of Tech City, affordable flexible workspace for the new economy and affordable housing for Londoners”.
