Here’s how to get Facebook and Google to talk like pirates everyday

“It's that time in September when sea dogs remember that grown ups still know how to play”. Yesterday, 19 September was International Talk Like a Pirate Day.

What is International Talk Like a Pirate Day?

Founded by John Baur (Ol' Chumbucket) and Mark Summers (Cap'n Slappy) to keep the pirate language and tradition alive, it went international when it was promoted by humour columnist Dave Barry in 2002.

To honour this day, partakers are encouraged to channel their inner Jack Sparrow through the way they dress, and most importantly, by speaking like a pirate, replacing their everyday language with pirate talk. Ahoy, matey!

In order to truly celebrate this day in 21st century fashion, we’re showing you how to make your social media and gadgets talk like pirates on any day.

How to make Facebook talk like a pirate

Click on settings, which should be on the top right corner of your screen, along the blue ribbon, select 'languages', then click on 'English (Pirate)', and voila – you’re all set to find the booty!

How to make Google talk like a pirate

On the Google homepage, click on settings on the bottom right hand corner, then select 'search settings', on the top left hand side click on 'languages', then show more, and select 'Pirate'.

Apps to get you in the pirate mood

Pirate Utility

Combining three essential tools for any pirate, this app allows you to take photos of yourself in full pirate gear, has an insult generator and also has a pirate translator, for those of you who don't know your avasts from your me-hearties.

Fat Cat Pirate Chat

This app uses real voices to regale up to 160 phrases which can help you start up a parley, as well as snappy comebacks to keep that buccaneering conversation going.

Pirate Jokes

If you want to impress your colleagues with some pirate humour then this is what you need: the app has a collection of pirate themed jokes set to make you the comic here of the office. But don't go 'overboard'! (Sorry).
