Hong Kong Racing Tips: Chang lining up exciting sprinter

By: Wally Pyrah

Michael Chang will be hoping for a winner to end a disappointing season.

TRAINER Michael Chang has had a season to forget. The likeable 59-year-old is currently propping up the trainers’ championship table with a lowly nine winners, but also an exasperating 48 places.

There has been, however, a glimmer of light for Chang since the beginning of this month with his stable showing some signs of revival with a couple of winners and seven places from his last 15 runners.

Chang doesn’t have too many good horses in his yard, but he does house a potentially exciting sprinter in AMIGOS GIGGLE who takes his chance in the Sung Tak Handicap (12:45pm).

This Australian bred three-year-old must have caught the eye of jockey Zac Purton in his track-work, with the former champion quoted as having a high opinion of this son of Snitzel and partnering him in three of his four trials before his debut at Sha Tin a fortnight ago.

On that occasion, having travelled sweetly throughout the contest, a lack of experience told when the speed tempo was upped approaching the two-furlong marker and it was only in the final furlong he got his act together to finish a strong third.

With Purton sidelined through suspension, Karis Teetan takes over in the saddle and looks set for a dream rail-hugging journey from his inside draw.

With blinkers equipped to keep him focused, and his final gallop last week impressing work-watchers, he should improve sufficiently to get Chang into double-figures.
