Horse Racing Betting Tips: Oh This Is Us to continue his fine record at Donny

TOMORROW’S Group Two Champagne Stakes promises to be one of the most fascinating contests of the afternoon.

Victory for Too Darn Hot would be the perfect appetiser for the connections of Lah Ti Dar ahead of the St Leger, as he is her full brother.

Remarkably, John Gosden has never won this prize, but he looks to have the perfect horse to end the drought with this unbeaten son of Dubawi.

The colt catapulted himself to the head of next year’s 2000 Guineas and Derby markets when obliterating a fair field in the Group Three Solario Stakes at Sandown a fortnight ago.

He looks a real superstar and I expect him to be too strong for Dark Vision and Phoenix Of Spain, who both bring some solid form to the table.

At 1/2 with Coral, he isn’t a bet, but it will be a shock if he doesn’t manage to make it three from three.

The Group Two Park Stakes (2.25pm) over seven furlongs has a far better shape to it from a punting perspective, where I hope OH THIS IS US can pick up a deserved first win in Group company.

Richard Hannon’s five-year-old showed his liking for Chester when making it two from two on the Roodee a couple of weeks ago with an impressive late burst of speed.

Although that was in handicap company, he won off a mark of 108 which is no mean feat, while tomorrow’s race looks pretty weak for the grade.

He’s also got some excellent Doncaster form, winning a seven furlong handicap in November 2016, before being beaten just a neck in the following season’s Lincoln Handicap.

Sir Michael Stoute’s Mustashry looks the biggest danger, as he’s a Group Three winner and ran a cracker to finish second behind Lord Glitters at York last month.

However, this will be the first time in 13 starts that he will have raced over less than a mile, which has to be a worry.

D’bai has been a bit in and out this season, although he has been running in better company, and did win the Group Three John Of Gaunt Stakes at Haydock in June.

Breton Rock and Dutch Connection have both failed to win this term, so could just be on the downgrade, while the rest don’t inspire confidence.

Oh This Is Us is a fair price at 5/1 with Coral and looks an each-way bet to nothing in this field of nine.

By his high standards, it’s been quite a disappointing campaign for Roger Varian.

Defoe could pick up a nice prize before winter kicks in, and he has some very promising juveniles, but he’s probably lacking a star or two at the moment.

That said, his horses tend to run very well at Doncaster, especially when ridden by Andrea Atzeni who has a brilliant record at the South Yorkshire track.

The duo combined to win the St Leger with Kingston Hill four years ago and although they don’t have anything of his calibre running this weekend, I fancy them to take the closing 1m4f handicap (5.55pm) with DUBAWI PRINCE.

He broke his maiden at this track last year and then won well on his first start for 484 days at Newmarket last month.

As long as he doesn’t suffer the dreaded bounce factor, he can pick up a third win from six career starts.

POINTERS SATURDAY
