Inamoto puts Brom through

Former Fulham midfielder Junichi Inamoto scored the extra-time winner for West Brom after the home side had twice recovered from a goal down in an enthralling Carling Cup tie at Craven Cottage.

Rob Earnshaw opened the scoring for the visitors after just three minutes. His goal, having capitalized on a mistake from the Fulham defence, was the only notable incident of a dull first half.

After the break, the game came alive. Both teams started playing with pace and a directness missing before half time. Earnshaw went close before Luis Boa Morte equalized at the other end. The winger could have had a second but an athletic bicycle kick was aimed straight at the keeper.

Kanu thought he had won the tie for the Baggies two minutes before the whistle. Keeper Tony Warner dithered on the ball inside his own area, Kanu stole it from his feet and tapped in. However, Fulham levelled again in injury time thanks to Heidar Helguson’s header.

That lead to extra time and it was in the first period of added play when West Brom went ahead for the third time.

Inamoto unleashed a shot from 25 yards out to beat Warner and put Bryan Robson’s side through to the fourth round.
