Google Shop London in pictures: Inside the search giant’s first ever physical shop on Tottenham Court Road

It may have succeeded as one of the most successful companies of the 21st century by offering services online, but Google is making a move offline for the first time – right here in London with its first real life shop.

Based at Currys PC World on Tottenham Court Road, the “shop within a shop” boasts a range of Google products for shoppers to get a hands-on look at.

That includes its range of Android phones and tablets, Chromebook laptops and Chromecast streaming device to touch and try out.

Visitors will be able to test how the devices work together and give Google software, tools and apps a trial run.

The shop is also hosting a giant map called Portal, where visitors can experience Google Earth on a giant screen which apparently creates a “flying” feeling.

There’s also a doodle wall, which is for, er, well, doodling on. Visitors can use a digital spray can to enhance/deface (delete as appropriate) the Google logo and then take their picture with to share on social, Google says.

Google’s James Elias said the new shop is a place where people can “play, experiment and learn about all of what Google has to offer; from an incredible range of devices to a totally connected, seamless online life”.

Google is planning a further two stores in Fulham and Thurrock.
