Judges decide as the CityAM awards close in

WITH the CityAM awards on the near horizon, our esteemed panel of judges met yesterday to chew over which names will be revealed on 13 November.

The looming IPO of Virgin Money meant Goldman Sachs’ Phil Raper almost missed the action, arriving after the coffee and croissants had been dealt out but just on time to get stuck in with the heated discussions.

Sadly, Sir Martin Sorrell wasn’t able to make it to the gathering and submitted judgements by postal vote but we’ll all get our fix of the advertising guru soon, as CityAM is proud to announce WPP’s main man as guest speaker at the ceremony.

He hasn’t revealed what he’ll talk about yet, but no doubt there’ll be some grey swans paddling in.

The judges, including PwC’s Ian Powell, 3i’s Simon Borrows, BAML’s Simon Mackenzie-Smith, Katherine Garrett-Cox of Alliance Trust, RLM Finsbury’s Roland Rudd and Nigel Boardman of Slaughter & May, were also the first to hear City A.M’s big news – that of David Hellier’s appointment as the new editor, much to their delight.
