Lloyds Banking Group closes another 15 branches

Lloyds Banking Group today announced the closure of another 15 branches as the steady whittling down of the British bank network continues.

Britain's biggest retail bank said 23 jobs will be at risk, with the closures taking place between January and March 2019. The bank is aiming for none of the job losses to be carried out via compulsory redundancies, with moves to other locations on offer.

Lloyds said the closures come amid "changing customer behaviour and the reduced number of transactions being made in branches".

The retail banking landscape is currently undergoing a seismic shift, with customers increasingly using the internet and mobile apps to carry out simple transactions, leaving lenders with large, costly branch networks.

Lloyds is reorienting its priorities, with a £3bn digital investment programme announced this year, while it announced 49 branch closures in April.

In a statement a Lloyds Bank spokesperson said: “We have confirmed the locations of a small number of Lloyds Bank branches which will close between January and March 2019.

“All branches announced for closure have a Post Office less than half a mile away so customers can still access their banking locally.

“We continue to make a significant investment in our branches and we are proud to have the largest network of branches in the UK.”
