Delays and cancellations were expected on all lines from London Bridge, Cannon Street and Charing Cross well into rush hour, after London Bridge was placed on lockdown by police after reports of a suspicious vehicle this afternoon.

The Metropolitan police were called at 1.40pm, while London Bridge train station was evacuated and closed as a precaution, spokesperson said. London Bridge itself was also closed to traffic, and businesses in Borough Market were evacuated too.

National Rail warned train services running to and from London Bridge may be cancelled, delayed or revised, with disruption expected until the end of the day.

The rail service said: "Metropolitan Police have requested that NO trains run through London Bridge until further notice, because of a security alert nearby.

"The police have requested an exclusion zone through the area, so no trains will run towards London Cannon Street or London Charing Cross until such a time we are told it is safe to do so.

"Southeastern will be diverting trains to London Blackfriars and London Victoria where they can, but some trains will need to be terminated before reaching London."

Southeastern rail said there would be no service through London Bridge until further notice because of the incident.

Southern rail said it is currently accepting Southeastern tickets on reasonable routes.

However, Southern has since announced that it's not running any services in or out of London Bridge, making that offer slightly less helpful.
