As if the travel chaos yesterday wasn't bad enough, Unite has announced strike action affecting around 50 bus routes will take place on Monday.

TFL has warned the action is “likely to result in severe disruption on a significant number of routes and some services not running”.

The strike will start at one minute past midnight on Monday morning and run until one minute to midnight on Monday night.

The drivers going on strike all work for London United, which means the routes affected will be focused around the south-west of the city (full details below). Services not operated by LU will operate a normal service.

Even if you don't use buses you are likely to be affected – south London Tube journeys are expected to be busier than normal and commuters are being urged to allow more time to complete their journeys,

Leon Daniels, TFL’s managing director of surface transport, said: “I’d like to apologise to our customers in advance for any disruption they may face tomorrow and on Monday. If you’re travelling in the areas affected then please do make sure that you check before you travel. Our teams will be working hard to get as much information out there as possible using a variety of channels.

“Bus drivers pay and conditions are a matter for London United and Unite to discuss, as it has been for 20 years, and we would urge them to seek a swift and fair resolution for the sake of our passengers.”

TfL is deploying extra staff to assist passengers at various locations, including bus stops and bus stations, and to hand out walking maps.

NOTE: This story has been updated following an agreement reached between the two sides not to strike tomorrow (19 September).
