London train disruptions continue after storms

Rail passengers travelling to and from London can expect a continuation of rail disruptions following yesterday's storms. 

 

Lightning strikes and signalling failures led to a series of train cancellations in southern England and Wales on Friday. Many of the trains affected had links in London.

 

A strike in Surbiton, south west London, caused delays for passengers travelling between London Waterloo and Surrey or Exeter.

 

At around 4.00pm, a strike in Twyford, Berkshire, resulted in trains being affected between London Paddington, Bristol, Swindon and Reading. 

 

Great Western has announced that passengers can still expect alterations to its long distance services, since many of its trains are “not in the correct position”. 

 

The railway company cancelled ten of its Saturday morning services because of "poor weather conditions earlier". All of its lines have now reopened, but there is currently a disruption to its service between Bristol and London Paddington which is expected to continue until 1.30pm.

 

However, it has said that today it will honour any tickets which could not be used yesterday as a result of cancelled services. 

 

Areas of east London are expected to be hit by further storms later today.
