Lord Mayor’s Show 2015: Event will go ahead as planned following Paris attacks
In solidarity with Paris and the many victims of the attacks that took place there last night, London will host the 2015 Lord Mayor's Show as planned.
A spokesperson for Canada Corporation said the show “will go ahead” as normal.
With the people of Paris in our thoughts, Union flags will be flying half-mast at Guildhall, The Mansion House and the Old Bailey.
The Lord Mayor's Show takes place annually to celebrate the moment the newly elected Mayor takes office. This year, shipbroker Jeffrey Evans will become the City's 688th mayor, taking over from Alan Yarrow.
The event is the oldest civic procession in the world, involving a three-mile procession from the Mansion House to the Royal Courts of Justice, where the new mayor swears loyalty to the crown.
The pageant this year is 7,000 strong, with 173 horses, 140 vehicles, vintage steamrollers, fire engines, the Batmobile set to feature.
As a show of respect to the Paris victims, the Lord Mayor will also lead a two-minute silence from The Mansion House balcony at 11am this morning. From sundown, Tower Bridge will be lit in the colours of the Tricolor – the French flag.
Last night, at least 127 people were killed during a series of attacks across the French capital, at restaurants, a concert hall and the Stade de France.
