Lufthansa pilots’ strike today will hit Munich flights

LUFTHANSA passengers face further disruption as a strike by pilots will seriously affect flights to and from Munich airport today, the third strike to hit the German airline in a fortnight.

Lufthansa pilots who are members of the Vereinigung Cockpit union will strike for eight hours, between the hours of 10am and 6pm Munich time today.

Lufthansa, said the industrial action was “totally incomprehensible” and that more than 160 of its scheduled Munich flights were likely to be ”heavily affected”, including some long-haul routes.

The new industrial action follows on from a strike at Frankfurt airport last Friday that grounded 200 short-haul flights, and a strike at the end of August at its budget carrier Germanwings.

Lufthansa, which has taken a €60m (£48.2m) hit from a three-day strike earlier in April, has been in dispute with the union over changes to its early retirement scheme.
