The Met Office has issued a weather warning with 80mph gale-force winds and heavy rain forecast for later this week as Storm Callum hits the UK.

A yellow warning has been declared for Northern Ireland and western Britain this Friday with strong winds and torrential rain posing a danger to life, the Met Office saya.

Rainfall is expected to reach up to 10cm and could cause flooding, as well as making driving conditions difficult for those affected.

Wind speeds are expected to reach 60mph in many areas and could even hit 80mph in the Outer Hebrides and far northwest of the Scottish mainland.

Storm Callum brings with it a risk of flying debris and tiles blowing off of roofs. The Met Office has therefore warned that there is chance of injuries and a danger to life.

The downpour looks set to continue into Saturday and the Met Office has also issued a yellow warning for the north of England and parts of Scotland.

A more severe orange warning has been issued in the Republic of Ireland for Thursday and Friday as the country expect gale-force winds of up to 80mph.

The storm will blow in from the Atlantic and hit the UK early Friday morning.
