Rezolve is close to securing a $750m valuation after a fresh funding round

Mobile shopping platform Rezolve has secured a deal with Samsung to make its technology available on the South Korean firm’s smartphones.

The London-based tech startup said its product will be embedded directly into Samsung’s Bixby Vision software and will be available in the US later this year.

Rezolve did not reveal details about the value of the deal, which gives it access to more than 300m devices, but it is believed to be worth tens of millions of pounds.

Rezolve allows consumers to make purchases by using their phone’s camera and microphone to interact with physical surroundings such as product labels and posters.

The tie-up marks the first commercial announcement for the firm, whose technology is currently active in China, Korea, India and Taiwan.

Rezolve is led by Dan Wagner, founder and former chief executive of collapsed e-commerce startup Powa, which had been lauded as one of the UK’s most promising tech unicorns.

However, Powa fell into administration in 2016 after burning through £147m of investor money, and Wagner is hoping his new ecommerce venture will help to rehabilitate his reputation.

Samsung has missed earnings expectations

Rezolve has made efforts to bolster its board in recent weeks, with the former British ambassador to Japan and Korea joining as a non-executive director.

Sir David Wright, who retired from diplomatic service in 2002 and has also served as vice chairman of Barclays Capital, will help to guide the firm through its new deal with the South Korean tech giant.

Last month Rezolve announced that former Sainsbury’s chief executive Justin King had joined its board in an advisory role, as it looks to win business from retailers.

It is understood Rezolve has already signed deals with a number of UK companies, who will be able to use the company’s tech in its mobile apps.

“Rezolve drives new shopping behaviors and speeds up transactions,” Wagner said. “Samsung’s vision and commitment to connected living, combined with the significant consumer reach, makes Bixby Vision the perfect platform for Rezolve.”
