Most tech workers prefer having an ‘outspoken’ boss, according to poll
Most people have some experience of working under a loud or overbearing boss.
But according to new research, most professionals in the tech sector actually prefer a chief exec who's outspoken.
A poll by Weber Shandwick's found that tech employees prefer bosses who don't shy away from controversial issues.
Of a group of 502 tech workers, more than four in five (82 per cent) said they liked activist chief execs, while 81 per cent thought company bosses had a responsibility to speak up about important societal issues.
74 per cent of respondents in the UK also said they would be more loyal to their organisation if their chief exec took a strong public stance on topical issues.
"The new generation of technology professionals is a highly coveted group for companies in every market and every sector," said Andy Polansky, chief exec of Weber Shandwick.
"Because of their highly specialised and advanced skill set, they are being hired in increasing numbers by employers of all sectors, not just traditional technology companies.
"Our study, a first of its kind among this select audience, provides further evidence that the momentum for chief exec activism is not going away and CEOs are increasingly expected to take principled positions on societal issues."
