Nick Clegg, the former deputy Prime Minister, who used to earn £134,565 in government, could boost his MP's salary, as he has taken on an agent to manage his after dinner speaking.

A spokesperson for Clegg, however, has said he did not authorise a website listing with a Washington-based agent, which claims to manage his after dinner speaking engagements and would charge up to $55,000 (£35,250) per speech.

His bio with Leading Authorities, who listed Clegg on their website, boasts that he can give speeches in five European languages and is associated with "landmark changes". Leading Authorities also assert that Clegg:

Remains an outspoken advocate of civil liberties and centre ground politics, of radical measures to boost social mobility, and of an internationalist approach to world affairs.

Clegg would join the likes of Tony Blair, who reportedly made £390,000 for two half-hour speeches in the Philippines, and Gordon Brown who declared a payment of £63,000 for a speech to an investment company in China.
