From tomorrow over-25s in England will be called forward to get their Covid-19 vaccine, health secretary Matt Hancock told MPs.

The health secretary confirmed the latest progress on the Covid-19 vaccine rollout to MPs in the Commons.

Hancock said that people aged 25 to 29 will be invited to book their jab as he signalled the start of the final stage of the vaccination programme.

Hancock also indicated ministers at Westminster were open to delaying the easing of restrictions in England scheduled for 21 June.

It came as new analysis showed Covid-19 case rates are rising in more local areas of the UK than at any point since early January, with numbers increasing in almost all parts of north-west England, London and Scotland.

The UK today reported 5,683 more cases of COVID-19 but just one further death within 28 days of a positive test, according to official data.
