Sir Ian McKellen was the guest of honour at the London Pride Gala Dinner at Mansion House last night where he was joined by Lord Mayor Fiona Woolf, singer Will Young, TV presenter Claire Balding and headline sponsors Citi and Baker & McKenzie.

It was revealed at dinner that Sir Ian is to receive the Freedom of the City, much to the audience’s delight.

“I am delighted to be supporting LGBT+ Pride in London," said the Lord Mayor.

"Our great city is a beacon to the world in terms of equality and nurturing and developing talent.  Pride is vital to that status and I encourage City institutions to support Pride in London to ensure that it can flourish as a powerful and vivid expression of our shared values and achievements."
