Restaurant legend Chris Corbin takes a swipe at Chiltern Firehouse

Restaurateurs Chris Corbin and Jeremy King, the duo behind The Wolseley and The Delaunay, are waking up to their third day as hoteliers this morning, having opened The Beaumont this week.

Artist Antony Gormley was the first person to stay in the hotel’s automaton-like ROOM, which he designed. “Typical artist, he came out complaining,” Corbin told The Capitalist.

Conversation turned to The Ivy, once run by Corbin and King, specifically the attention it got from paparazzi. “They changed the business, it really was a battle,” he said.

With Chiltern Firehouse seeming to be bearing the brunt of media attention now, does Corbin feel for it? “They like it and encourage it, I think,” he responded. “But do you think anyone will be talking about it in a few years?” Ouch, handbags at dawn.
