EDWARD ALLEN, THURLEIGH
One of a young team of partners at wealth management boutique Thurleigh Investment Managers, where he was made a partner in 2008, Allen has made a name for himself at the tender age of 29. Allen is closely involved with risk-management, and he also runs an ETFs-only portfolio which was up 23.9 per cent last year. The Oxford engineering graduate was named the Citywealth Emerging Manager in 2010. Great things are expected.
DANIEL BURTON MORGAN,
BOA MERRILL LYNCH
Having joined Bank of America Merrill Lynch as a graduate in 2006, Burton-Morgan has worked in both the investment banking and corporate broking teams and is currently an associate in corporate broking. He worked on nine equity raisings in the past year, including for Informa, Scottish and Southern Energy, Afren and National Express, but his nomination is based on his sterling work on the successful Jupiter IPO.
IVAN GAZIDIS, ARSENAL
The South African native became Arsenal’s CEO in 2008 and quickly won over both fans and business watchers. He ran America’s Major League Soccer for 15 years, and has mixed go-getting with tradition. He re-named parts of the Emirates after the old Highbury stadium, while enhancing Arsenal’s stability by signing youngsters on long contracts and secured manager Arsene Wenger for three more years. It’s a promising start for this young Gunner.
BEN LOOMES, GREENHILL
Nominated for “his role in extracting a top price in the bid for Scott Wilson”, the engineering consultancy which was sold to URS this summer following a bidding war, but also singled out by a number of City insiders as one to watch. A star in Greenhill’s European M&A, Restructuring and Financing Advisory department, where he has worked since 2003, Loomes also worked with G4S plc on its acquisitions of ArmorGroup and Global Solutions, and with Experian, Lonmin, Tesco and Alliance Boots on large deals.
JAN SRAMEK, GOLDMAN SACHS
The youngest person on our list – at just 22 – he makes up in sheer determination what he may lack in experience. Sramek grew up in a one-bedroom house in Moravia, set up his first business aged 13, and got 10 As at A-Level. He won a place to study maths at Cambridge before transferring to LSE in his second year (he found Cambridge too sleepy). While an undergraduate he wrote a motivational book, and he now works in emerging markets at Goldman Sachs. His ambitions? To have six children and become a philanthropist.
