Royal London’s Clare Salmon saddled at Goodwood in charity horse race
As an insurance professional, she’s well used to working with risk but Royal London’s marketing doyenne Clare Salmon is going a few furlongs further today, by playing jockey in the Magnolia Cup charity race at Goodwood – which will see Salmon race against celebs such as supermodel Edie Campbell and jeweller Philippa Holland.
“I’ve entered the state of terror phase,” she told The Capitalist. “But my job has been quite frantic over the past few months and the way I deal with stress is with more stress, so it’s been good.” If her horse (Whinging Willie – yes, quite the name) doesn’t get his nose across the line first, at least Salmon will be looking a million dollars. All of the silks being worn in the race have been created by fashion designers, including Vivienne Westwood and McQueen’s Sarah Burton. Salmon’s silks have been done by wedding dress designer Kate Halfpenny. “Shame I have to wear baked-bean coloured tights underneath,” she laughed.
Those of you thinking this is the most daring event on Salmon’s horizon this week however can think again – she’s off to the Himalayas on Saturday to rise across them, on a pony. We heard it straight from the horse’s mouth.
