Schumacher backs Vettel to ruin Button title dream

SEVEN-TIME world champion Michael Schumacher is backing Sebastian Vettel to pull off a sensational comeback and pip Jenson Button to the Formula One title.

With two races of the season to go, Vettel lies third in the standings with Rubens Barrichello two points ahead in second and Button a further 14 points in front.

But Schumacher believes his fellow German has what it takes to overhaul the Brawn GP duo and earn a maiden driver success for his Red Bull team.

“Mathematically everything is still possible, and I will keep my fingers crossed for him,” Schumacher said.

“He still has the chance to win the title and this fact alone is already a big success for him. I am sure he will do everything possible to produce a good performance in the next two races.”

Meanwhile, British Racing Drivers’ Club president Damon Hill is keen for a quick decision to be made on where the British Grand Prix will be held next year.

Doubts continue to be raised over Donington’s capacity to stage the 2010 race, prompting F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone to accuse circuit chief Simon Gillett of being in breach of contract.

Silverstone are ready to step in if required but former world champion Hill just wants a simple resolution. “I’d like to see an end to the continuing saga,” he said.
