Serco bags 3 leading lights as non-execs

After announcing at the end of last week that it’s appointed a new chief executive – in the form of current Aggreko chief Rupert Soames – government contractor Serco has said this morning that its drafted in three impressive new non-executives.

Rachel Lomax, former deputy Bank of England governor, Mike Clasper, ex-BAA chief and chairman of HM Revenue & Customs, and Tamara Ingram, senior executive at WPP will be joining the board of the scandal-hit firm.

Following a year which saw it blocked from winning government work and large fines for overcharging on tagging prisoners, Serco's got a tricky path ahead when it comes to turning around its fortunes and restoring trust.

The company saif Rachel Lomax will become chair of the corporate responsibility committee, with "responsibility for the ethical and governance oversight of the group".

Alastair Lyons, non-executive chairman, said:

I am delighted that we have secured the services of three individuals who bring a broad range of skills and experience to complement Serco's current non-executive directors.  Each has a great track-record in their particular field of expertise and will add much to the debate around our board table.

Serco shares jumped ten per cent on the appointment of Soames on Friday.
