Sergio Aguero could face Celtic in Champions League despite Pep Guardiola confirming changes will be made

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has hinted that striker Sergio Aguero could spearhead his side’s attack despite confirming a raft of changes are likely to be made for Tuesday’s Champions League dead rubber against Celtic.

The Football Association yesterday confirmed that Aguero will serve a four-match domestic suspension for his sending off against Premier League leaders Chelsea on Saturday, meaning he will miss games against Leicester, Watford, Arsenal and Hull.

Aguero’s ban is set to hand Kelechi Iheanacho an extended run in the side, leaving the Argentine, who has scored 16 goals so far this season, free to sign off before his enforced break in style.

“There will be changes definitely,” said Guardiola, whose side have already qualified for the tournament’s last 16 but cannot overtake Barcelona in Group C. “I’m so happy to be able to give minutes to people who deserve to play who perhaps didn’t play the last game.

“That doesn’t mean it won’t be important for me. I will demand the best from those players. But if Sergio is going to play or not, I will decide. I don’t know right now.”

Midfielder Fernandinho, meanwhile, has been handed a three-match ban for his scuffle with Cesc Fabregas, who has escaped any punishment, while both City and Chelsea have been charged with failing to control their players.
