Severe delays on the Central Line and Victoria Line, stations closed, after signal failure at Mile End

There are severe delays on the Central Line and Victoria Line – but according to Transport for London it's not the fault of the snow.

There is no service between Liverpool Street and Epping and Woodford via Hainault because of a signal failure at Mile End.

The service was expected to resume at 10am, but severe delays were being reported throughout the Central Line and several stations were closed because of overcrowding.

Stations including Oxford Circus and Holborn were closed.

Customers were being advised to avoid the Central Line “wherever possible”.

They were told their Tube tickets would be accepted on London Overground, London Buses, DLR and Abellio Greater Anglia services via any reasonable route.

Separately, there is no service between Seven Sisters and Kings Cross because of a person on the track. There are minor delays on the rest of the line, but some stations have also been closed.

Although the chaos does not appear to have been caused by the light dusting of snow that Londoners woke up to this morning, many have been sceptical about the timing of the two events.
